Robert Ward, former Executive Director

Robert Ward is a seasoned banking executive and international consultant with more than 51 years of global experience that served him well during his tenure at the Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment. A graduate of Hamilton College and Johns Hopkins University, Mr. Ward started his career at Citicorp in New York and Africa. He joined Arthur D. Little where he was extensively involved in undertaking economic and agro-industrial projects as well as serving as development advisor to government entities primarily in Africa, the Middle East and Brazil. Throughout his career at ADL, Mr. Ward was involved in developing trade and promotion programs for areas such countries as Nigeria and Puerto Rico. He also helped established and was the director of the Arthur D. Little graduate Management Education Institute-from 1965-1974. This institute is in its 42nd year and is now owned by the Hult Corporation of the U.K. In 1974, he joined Bank of Boston and worked extensively in Africa, Europe and the Far East. He established and ran the banks’ subsidiaries, branches and representative offices in Nigeria, Turkey, France Cameroons, Zimbabawe, and Teheran and at one time was director of International Correspondent Banking.

In 1993, Mr. Ward joined Baybank as the head of its International Division, responsible for all international activities including foreign exchange, correspondent, banking, foreign multinationals, trade finance and international personal banking. Having worked extensively with MOITI during his tenure at Baybank and later as a senior partner at Boston Global Partners, Mr. Ward became executive director of MOITI in July 2003. He resigned from that position and became a senior advisor to his successor in October 2005, until his retirement in January 2006.
