Tomye Tierney, Vice President and General Manager

Tomye Tierney is Vice President and General Manager of Emerging Markets at Genzyme Corporation, based in Cambridge, MA. Tomye has been with Genzyme for over 16 years, and has worked in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia.
After developing markets in many parts of the world, Tomye returned to the U.S. in 1998 from an expatriate assignment in Singapore and created an innovative humanitarian program which is the first alliance of its kind between a biotechnology company and a non-profit organization. The success of this partnership between Genzyme and Project HOPE led to additional collaborations and programs which give patients in developing countries access to life-saving medical treatment. Tomye is responsible for managing these partnerships and proactively developing new programs and partners as Genzyme introduces new drugs and therapies.
Prior to joining Genzyme, Tomye was Director of Baxter Hyland’s biologicals business in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Tomye holds a B.A. degree in Economics from California State University, Long Beach and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
She currently serves on several boards: director of WorldBoston/World Affairs Council, PQMD (Partnership for Quality Product Donations), Leadership Council for Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative at Harvard/JFK School of Government, and an Advisor for Northeastern University International Studies. She is a member of the Genzyme Charitable Foundation, Inc. Advisory Board.
