Armindo Gonçalves

Mr. Gonçalves' international experience extends to a number of countries in the focused area of economic development and strategic planning. He has a varied cultural history spanning the eastern and western hemispheres.  Born in Angola Africa, Mr. Goncalves fled his native land during the outbreak of civil war in 1975.  In the interim, he lived as refugee in several countries before immigrating to Boston, MA in 1979.  He earned his bachelor’s of arts degrees from the University of Massachusetts in planning and urban economics and his advanced degree in international development and regional planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is the founder and Managing Director of International Development Consortium, which provides knowledge services to government agencies throughout West Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.  Mr. Goncalves became a naturalized citizen in 1992.

Over the past 15 years Mr. Gonçalves has spent his professional career undertaking development work at the International American Development Bank, the Boston Housing Authority and the Boston Redevelopment Authority where he currently services as Deputy Director of Economic Development. In this capacity Mr. Goncalves has guided the implementation of projects totaling over $2.2 billion dollars of private investment in the City of Boston. He currently serves on boards of several non-profit organizations and senior advisory to a number of African Diplomats in Boston and Washington DC.
 
Presently, Mr. Gonçalves is collaborating with key academic professionals in the Boston region in developing the Portuguese Speaking Countries Presidential Summit, focusing on post colonial education reform, democracy and economic development strategies in these countries since their independence from Portugal.  The summit which will preside will feature the President of Cape Verde, Angola, East Timor, Moçambique and Guine Bissau.   Mr. Goncalves resides in Boston, MA with his two children.  He is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Cape Verdean Creole.
