Robert Eng Ng
Dr. Ng has been with Babson College since 1976. He served as Chair of the Marketing Department from 1990 to 1996. He served as Director of the Asia Institute at Babson College from 2000 to 2008.
Dr. Ng consults in the areas of high technology marketing and business in China and has been founder or board of director member for several US as well Chinese start-up companies including office products, software, magnetic media firms and health care.
Dr. Ng has taught in, and developed materials for executive programs in the United States, Europe and Asia. The most popular material, TechMark, is used globally and includes clients such as Unilever, Adidas, Cisco and Siemens as well as large Chinese companies such as China Telecom, China Mobile and Golden Lion. His specialty is executive programs about growth issues for small and medium-sized companies at Tsinghua University Graduate School of Economics and Management, Cheungkong (Changjiang) School of Management, and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). Robert Ng’s specialty is China. His first business visit to China took place in 1979 and his first executive program in China was 1982. More recently, he has designed the opening academic programs for the EMBA at Tsinghua, CEIBS EMBA, Shanghai Jiaotong and Fudan. And, he has personally taught the opening academic programs at Tsinghua and CEIBS for the past 5 years. He has been with the Tsinghua EMBA program since its official launch and he was recently recognized as the only professor that every Tsinghua Executive MBA students received lectures from.
Professor Ng runs workshops on entrepreneurship for Chinese managers and companies. He teaches all the entrepreneurship electives at CEIBS. He delivers sessions on entrepreneurship in China to the TRIUM Global EMBA program. And, he runs several programs on challenges of growth for small, medium as well as large Chinese companies.
While China is Robert Ng’s specialty, he has working knowledge of various environments in Asia. He has taught and given advice to organizations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan.
As an educator, he has received many awards at Babson and outside of Babson. Three notable awards at Babson are the Thomas Kennedy Award (excellence in teaching at the graduate school), the Carpenter Prize (for exceptional contributions to Babson) and the Babson Leadership Professor award. Two notable awards outside of Babson include the Fulbright Scholar award and the Decision Sciences Institute award for Best Application of Theory.
Dr. Ng has written texts in statistics and promotion. His articles and presentations deal with market research, modeling, market segmentation and competitive structure. Past writings and presentations about China deal with human resources, state-owned enterprise reform and the business environment of Greater China. He is currently planning a book on the China economic and business environment.
