Priscilla H. Douglas
Dr. Douglas has global responsibility for learning and development and organizational change for Vertex Pharmaceuticals. She joined the company in February 2008 and has introduced several innovative initiatives to include targeted coaching for all senior leaders, new ways to work in a matrix, presentation skills for bench scientist and a company wide meeting free day. Her work is moving Vertex closer toward its goal: redefining health and transforming lives with new medicines.
Prior to Vertex, Priscilla utilized her 25 years of experience to form PHDouglas & Associates; a consulting firm that specializes in individual empowerment and organizational effectiveness. Priscilla worked with senior managers to help them be more effective as leaders. As a consultant, she leverages the best work of individuals and groups who deal with thorny issues and multiple stakeholders.
Her professional career includes key executive positions in three areas: government, academics and business. As an example in government, Priscilla served as Special Assistant to the Director of the FBI and as Secretary of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. An instructor in the masters program for Radcliffe Seminars (Harvard University) she taught courses in management, leadership and organizational design. While at General Motors’ Pontiac Motor Division, she worked closely with Dr. W. Edwards Deming. Priscilla has consulted to Fortune 100 companies in the areas of strategy, marketing communications, organizational transformation, concurrent engineering and continuous quality improvement.
Priscilla is a thought leader in the areas of knowledge sharing and author of a best practice entitled "Documents Convey Knowledge" included in the book: Smart Business: Leveraging the Power and Potential of Knowledge Communities (1999) by Dr. Jim Botkin. She is the author of an online publication for financial professionals entitled Information Technology is Out--Knowledge Sharing is In (2002 Wiley Periodicals). Her most recent article published by Employment Relations Today (Winter 2008) is Affinity Groups: Catalyst for Inclusive Organization.
